Advice for creating a survey for an online product (website)?

Hi everyone,

I have an idea for a product. My problem is that the product will be a content website, so I can't really show users the "product" (website) if I am going to do market research BEFORE I actually build the website. I also don't want to share every detail of the site with those I'll be contacting for feedback, since it'd certainly be possible for someone to "copy" a key aspect of my site if I would not be building it until after my market research was completed.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions for how I should gauge interest in my future website? I'll be using a Survey Monkey l to obtain feedback from my market, so I'm not sure if I should use yes/no questions or if it'd be better to get open-ended responses.

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance! Sean

For trying out aspects of your website on people: Some people make a polished mockup of a website in an image editor to present the overall visual design before they code it.
