About Treehouse

Our mission is to diversify the tech industry through accessible education, unlocking the door to opportunity, and empowering people to achieve their dreams.

About Treehouse

Treehouse was founded in 2011 with the purpose of making tech more accessible through affordable and engaging online tech education. Over the course of the following decade, we’ve taught over 1.2 million people how to code and design. Today, Treehouse is the educational platform of choice for thousands of students, schools, libraries, non-profits, and corporations around the globe. For a glimpse into the impact Treehouse is making in the classroom, check out this video highlighting the use of our platform within a high school computer science classroom:

Practical, Interactive Instruction

Interesting as it may be, you’re not going to find any course material covering programming self-driving cars, creating your own programming language, or building a Rubik’s Cube-solving robot. Instead, we focus exclusively on topics, languages, and technologies that are used within high-salary technology roles. Programmers with knowledge of JavaScript, Python, HTML, CSS, PHP, and Ruby are in extraordinarily high demand, and so that’s what we teach. We also focus on other critical parts of the web development stack, including design, user experience, databases, and product management.

Although Treehouse is best known for its award-winning video-based instruction, the ability to demonstrate what students have learned is made possible through quizzes, code challenges, and virtual workspaces.

Obsessive Support

Learning about technology can sometimes be intimidating, particularly when you don’t have an active support network you can turn to for questions and advice. The Treehouse success and support teams are here to fill this void, answering your questions via our community forum. Because the forum is well integrated into the course curriculum, your questions can be associated with a specific video, raising the likelihood of a detailed and applicable response.

Techdegree students are provided with even more intimate support via our dedicated Slack workspaces. You’ll interact directly with our team (even via direct messages if you’d like), and we’ll even jump on a Zoom call if you’re really stuck. Further, all of our student success representatives are themselves graduates of our Techdegree program, meaning you’ll receive an empathetic and knowledgeable response from somebody who has indeed walked a mile in your proverbial shoes. And because our success team is spread across multiple continents, chances are somebody will be online regardless of your schedule!

Administrative and account questions are handled by our world-class support team. A recent review of our support desk statistics shows an average response of less than 90 minutes for all customer inquiries!

Affordable Subscriptions

According to US News, the average cost of public, in-state college tuition in the United States is $10,338 annually. Out-of-state tuition is more than double that at $22,698. And this doesn’t even take into account food, health insurance, and living expenses.

By contrast, Treehouse Techdegree students can often complete their degree for less than $2,000, doing so on their own time and according to their schedule. Students seeking an even more affordable solution can subscribe to our $25/month Courses plan, gaining access to thousands of hours of valuable learning content.

You’re probably asking whether it’s possible to land a job in the tech industry after learning from Treehouse. The answer is definitively yes! But don’t take our word for it, let our students make the case through their own personal success stories.

Our Values

We believe that achieving equity, diversity, and inclusion requires doing constant work to learn, grow, and change. We have a long way to go, but we are dedicated to building a more equitable, diverse, & inclusive environment at Treehouse and in the larger tech industry.

Our Mission

Our mission is to diversify the tech industry through accessible education, unlocking the door to opportunity, and empowering people to achieve their dreams. Offering courses to individual learners, internal company teams, and third-party education providers, we help to bridge the gap between formal educational institutions and on-the-job requirements.
