after i removed width: 70% and margin: 0 auto from .container and added it to @media my webpage layout on larger screen did not adjust like the video. All my content is on the edge of the browser now. Any ideas whats going on

But in speculation. You may need to keep those css attributes on the div and perhaps others in the @media? It needs a starting point to work from.
Also - the parent div to what you are working may need a width too.
