Android Studio running very slow

Android studio is running extremely slow on my laptop. Gradle build takes forever, and often has errors. I reinstalled the program, but now its showing other errors and the preview won't show up. My laptop has 8gb ram, so I think it should be okay. Please advise, as this has really put a stop to my progress. Thank you!!
