Anyone know how to make Laravel and MAMP work on the same system?

Since I installed Vagrant Homestead and Laravel, MAMP Apache servers will not initialize on localhost. I have deleted all of the work I did to get Laravel up and running, but I'm still not able to get MAMP to function. If you have any articles on this, I would love to learn more about the configuration that is causing this conflict.

One shouldn't really affect the other. Are you getting any error messages back from MAMP?

You could do something like uninstall / reinstall or why not 'turn it off and on again' but I'm sure you've covered that base :p

What were you doing when MAMP broke?

Hey Tom,

I was getting an error that said Apache was failing to initialize. I'm still not entirely sure what the issue was, but I learned a lot sifting through all the internal files that collectively make up the MAMP stack. I think it was just a port conflict.

Installing Virtual box & Vagrant is what started the issue, but not to worry. Minimal work was lost when I reinstalled mySQL, and my local development server is back online. I chose to go ahead and install a LAMP stack from scratch on a linux machine just to know more about how the software in the stack works together.

I'm really glad you took a sec to respond. You and I are on similar paths here, I started on Treehouse about 5 months ago and I am hooked. Programming is one of the most useful things I have ever attempted to study. I recently broke into the top ten for all time PHP and couldn't help but notice that you are dominant in that category - kudos.

Any advice for someone who wants to become a Moderator?

Haha! I would say that the leaderboards are interesting but might better compare time spent on Treehouse as opposed to real-world skill level.

I think the best way to answer your question is to give you a paragraph or two from the moderator handbook:
