Anyone programming for profit, building apps to sell, or creating platforms that you charge for?

I'm seeing that there is a push toward learning for the sake of a job. Are there any people here that are learning so they could build their own business? I'm learning so I can create applications that I either charge for (Saas) or that I sell.

Anyone learning to program as an entrepreneur? Maybe a mastermind could be in the works for entrepreneurs that program their own products.

Thanks!

Hi Estevan,

I've got a an idea for an app but don't have any financial backing. I've been told by many people i know that it is a great idea! I don't know how well qualified you are at making apps but would you consider having a chat with me about coming on board as a partner and we will split the equity? or anyone else who reads this and would consider giving it a pop?

Take care

Phil

Yes me. Currently have a Saas project I'm solo developing in Meteor.js, probably about 50% through the initial development process. Have clients already wanting to use it, and have someone ready to help when it launches get the customer support side set up after launch.

Probably will be charging $12 a month per user when it launches, which I've also got feed back from people I know that are our target audience that they felt $12 was a very fair price per month.

To be honest, at this point, I have no intention of working for a company building my websites. I 100% want to build what I want, when I want.

Stay tuned. We'll see what the next 6-12 months look like. If all this fairs well, I may be a self employed webtrepreneur living next to the ocean.

Exciting! I plan on creating apps for a small niche, but low maintenance. A couple of these and I won't be living on the beach like you. Rather, I'll be in a cabin the mountains next to a stream.

My goal too is low maintenance. I know no maintenance is impossible, but if I can get away growing this with 20-30 hours a week on average, I'd be happy.

The mountain cabin next to a stream was my original plan too, but the pretty little lady wants to live next to the ocean, so we compromised, she won, lol. In all fairness, as longs as I live close enough to go snowmobile in the mountains, I'll be just happy. And were she wants to live on the ocean puts me less than a 2 hour drive to some great snowmobiling, so it's all good.

You seem to have a handle on what you are looking to achieve. How is the process going so far?

It's going okay, it's crazy the amount of work it really is. But hopefully be launching a closed beta by the end of this month.

Functionality of app is 90% done. Working on the login and authentication systems now, than just got to make it look a bit better before beta. I turn 29 this month, and a while ago I set a goal to be self sufficient and location independent with my income, so I'm really turning the heat on cause I only have about a year left to hit that goal.

So far so great! Mad dash to the finish. My guy I'm building this for and more or less partnered with is flying in at the end of May to see the product in action. Hoping for a late May, early June public launch! Very exciting times.

20-30 hours a week would be great, especially if the beach and the mountains aren't that far apart. Have you done any market research for your product?

Yes, my market are real estate agents. I work for a home builder primary. So I have befriended some real estate agents, and have talked to them about it. It doesn't appear there is really anything out there doing what I'm planning to do for real estate agents. An ex-coworker is the non-technical side of this, but he is older, and has connections all over the US, from his work experience. He has some connections to set up the support side (phone, email, and monitoring) service. He also has some money to spend a few hundred bucks a month to start on marketing, server, etc, and anyone I need to hire, like a sys admin to make sure we're running on a well optimized server. He also knows a bunch of realtors in other states even, and has also talked to them, and the feedback from every realtor we've talked to has been amazing. We get asked weekly how close to launch, by someone. We'll probably do a closed beta launch for a few weeks to dry run it with real realtors to make sure we hit the mark before going too public.

I think we have a good thumb on the pulse of our market, and I'm ecstatic about the possibility. Even if it doesn't work out just as I hoped, it's a lot of fun to be able to dream this big.

That is my dream as well. I quit my job to learn programming and I'd like to make some apps and retire early. :)

What kind of apps are you looking to make? That's my goal also. I would love to create apps that provide for our personal needs and then apps that fund mission work.

I have some ideas for some utility type apps like calculators, and also some fun apps like games and puzzles.
