Hiya Andrew! Doesnt matter if you're a mobile developer or a DBA (Database Administrator) or QA Engineer or backend developer, all of us will encounter JavaScript in one way or another. And JavaScript is so powerful and versatile nowadays, the hell you could even program Robots with javascript nowadays. Frameworks like React and Angular runs on top of UI layer in mobile.

Even if you start learning web development, i'd highly recommend you to learn JavaScript and then frameworks like React , Nodejs and Angular. Or maybe you could start with Java. Java is everywhere, even on web. So yeah Good luck!
