best free text editor?

wondering what text editor you guys use? ive been using notepad++ and i see lots of the teachers here use sublime

just looking for input. im sure its mostly up to user preference but im just curious as to what the majority of people here use

Gotta agree with Dustin. Brackets is pretty awesome. I've been using it during the CSS Foundations course.

I personally use Notepad++ and I love it.

It really all comes down to preference as most just....edit text. Some have cool features, like Notepad++ or Sublime, where they have keyboard shortcuts or highlight text.

My best suggestion would be to try out different editors and see which one you like best.

im also working on sample webpages to get my portfolio up and running... however i am having trouble finding a site that offers free royalty free stock photos... any suggestions?

Finding free royalty free stock images will be pretty hard (Any that are actually even kinda decent). I am not too sure about this, sorry :(

I'm another Sublime user- seems to work similarly to Workspaces, so that is nice if you switch back and forth a lot. And free is always good.

It's worth noting that Sublime Text costs $70

I use VI / VIM (VIM is basically VI with fancy colors). It takes some time to learn and it can be confusing at first, but trust me, it's definitely worth it. It is available on Windows, but I use it through the command line when I'm working on websites.

I used Notepad++ for years before I finally made the switch, and now I don't even consider using it.
