best ways to make logos and icons??

I want to start trying to make logos and icons. I'm completely new to doing this side of design and was wondering is it better to do this in photoshop or illustrator?

It would just like to know what one is best for me to start learning today

Definitely Illustrator, I use photoshop mainly for photo manipulation or for making mockups for websites. Illustrator allows you to create with a lot of freedom, it also creates vector art which means it can be scaled down or scaled up as much as you want! :)

Agreed, Illustrator. Icons and Logos should also be vector based.

If you don't want to shell out for Illustrator, Affinity Designer is going to be your best bet for icon design. Sketch is quite popular, but I find its fine-tuning of tight vectors more trouble than it's worth—better for UI design, wireframing, and prototyping than icon design.
