Ruby ActiveRecord Basics Introduction to ActiveRecord ActiveRecord Architecture

[Bug] Treehouse staff: your website does not always recognize that I've finished watching a video.

Hey Treehouse staffers, This seems to be happening more often now so I wanted to say something. When I go through a course, occasionally after watching a video start to finish and going to the next one, Treehouse will NOT record/show that I've watched the video I just finished watching. I find this annoying because it means Treehouse thinks I haven't finished workshops, when in fact I've gone through the whole thing (it most recently happened with the "Debugging Javascript in the Browser" workshop -- I had to watch a couple videos twice before the site added the checkmarks beside them. It happened again a moment ago, after watching the "Quick and Dirty Example" video in the "ActiveRecord Basics" course). I know a course will still be marked "complete" if I've passed all its quizzes and challenges, but workshops will stay on my Home screen as "In Progress" and -- here's another issue that you probably are aware of -- there's no way for me to remove courses or workshops from my Home's "In Progress" list, so things just sit there until I relent and watch the video again.

Is this a known issue for you all? Can someone take a look and see if they can figure out why Treehouse might fail to acknowledge when a student finishes watching a video? I've wondered if I have to keep the browser window "active" (not switch to my computer's console or code editor), or slow the video down to 1x speed, or keep moving the mouse so Treehouse doesn't think it's playing to an empty room, etc. (None of those things seem to have an effect.)

Also, can you add a way to manually remove courses and workshops from my "In Progress" list on the Home screen? Just because I went and watched one video on some random course doesn't mean I want that course on my home screen for eternity until I finish the whole thing.

Thanks for taking a look, and letting me know.

I used to have this problem also.

But now after the video ends, I wait until the little animation finishes drawing the progress graph and putting the little dots on it. Only then do I press the 'continue" button. Since I have been practicing this little pause I have not had any more problems with videos not getting marked as done.

That option to clear "in progress" has come up before. About a year ago (I don't have a link handy) someone asked for the same thing and a staff member said it was in the queue. If you want to make an appeal for expediting it, you might try contacting the staff directly using the Support page. That page also has the instructions for officially reporting bugs.

Hi Steven! Good to see I'm not the only one who's had this happen. I'll give a try to waiting for the animation screens and see if that solves it. Thanks for the tip!

Also nice to see that managing your "in progress" items is an open issue. I guess I'll write an email to that help@teamtreehouse.com address and mention it as a reminder. If it's been over a year, I suspect it's fallen out of the work queue. :)

The work queue is a bit mysterious. It may not have fallen out, a bug in the leaderboards was fixed recently but had been reported regularly for at least 18 months. But I'm sure a reminder would't hurt.
