Can anyone tell me all about hackathons??

I mean what are the participants supposed to do, what they are, are they online? or are they supposed to take place in our locality?

I have never been to a hackathon, so take my answer with a grain of salt.

Most hackathons are about software development, mobile development or Internet Of Things related. There is usually a time limit, (24 hours or 48 hours), where participants have to make a product from start to finish. You can go there with friends or find people there to be in your team. I believe most of them are locally.

Oh... that's not so good news, cuz even if I want to participate in one, I don't have a friend fo mine to team up with me, neither do I know someone like that.

But usually the event can also find people to be in your team. I also don't know anyone but plan to go to a hackathon in October.
