Can I change HTML content permanently with AJAX?

Im basically looking to create a list of links that can be changed from the browser should they need to be.

AJAX can be used to send your changes back to the server, but it is the server's job to update the source to preserve the changes for future operations.

No browser function, including AJAX, can change the source content directly.
