Can't login to FTP - login incorrect

I've searched all over the internet, talked to my domain host, and still can't figure this out. I'm hoping someone will have an idea....

I'm using Cyberduck with the following login credentials: server: my IP address (I think that's my site's IP address?) username: the username I use to login to my domain host (sometimes I put @mydomain.com after, and sometimes I try without - I'm not sure what the difference is or if I should do it one way or the other. @mydomain.com is obviously my own domain.) password: the same password I use to login to my domain host

I created a new FTP account in CPanel and that one works. So why doesn't my original admin account work? If I continue to use this newly created account, will I run into problems down the road? Will I ever NEED to use my original/admin account for FTP?

Lauren,

When you talked about your "original" admin account are you talking about your CPanel account that you used to login and create that other FTP account? Most of the time the accounts are separate. In most of these cases you really shouldn't be able to log into your FTP account using your CPanel credentials unless your host configured it specifically that way. The systems are separate. As you mentioned you created a new FTP account using CPanel and that's working. What I normally find myself doing is keeping them separate. Have your admin account that allows yourself to admin the system within CPanel—then create an FTP account (like you did) and use that separate account to manage files with CyberDuck. It's unlikely you'll have issues doing so that way.

I'm not sure if I missed something or if the videos just didn't make that clear, but I feel so much better about it now! Thanks, Tim!!
