How can I change the color of a checkbox in css?

Tricky question! You really can't change the color of a checkbox, at least not in a reliable, browser-independent way.

But the good news is that you can hide the checkbox itself, but still use its state to control the display of another element (possibly a pseudo-element) that replaces it. It's a bit complicated to get into here, but I found this neat site with several downloadable CSS and image libraries of alternate and colored checkboxes and radio buttons. If you search the web, you can find plenty other resources around like it also.
