Can't type a tilde!? (~)

Hi I'm from Belgium, and I'm trying to do the exercises (Git Basics) but for some reason I can't type a tilde ( ~ ). I've been looking for answers on google, but can't seem to find one that solves the issue. I have a AZERTY keyboard (macbook air 2014) and the schortcut that works for me in my local console is ALT + N. If somebody could give me a solution to my problem that would be great. Without one I can't even do this course.... which would be pretty lame.

According to this wiki :

Tilde

The tilde is available under Windows by using a combination of the Alt Gr + é keys, followed by the letter requiring the tilde.

In the Belgian AZERTY layout, it can be generated by a combination of Alt Gr + =.

Somewhere else I read:

Shift + key left of w.
