Change domain name or not?

A small business has had a web site up for a very long time (with some traffic, but nothing exceptional), but the domain name can be improved (like changing it from cc-tld to a .com). Is it a good idea to move it and lose the high search engine ranking due to long time of existence or not?

Hi Daria,

It really depends. A ccTLD is great if you are trying to rank for a country specific location. So if you are in say Australia then keeping that domain would be beneficial. If you think that you could benefit from a .com and the company is specific to the US then it might be worth the move. The downside in moving will be a small loss of SEO value as long as you focus on 301 your previous pages to your new one. Basically you will need to decide if this is worth the time and effort.

Thanks for the references, they're really helpful. :)
