Clean Android Studio project from terminal - mac OS

I am trying to clean my project from the terminal inside the android studio by typing "./gradlew" clean as it is described in the docs: https://developer.android.com/studio/build/building-cmdline.html, however I get the message: "./gradlew: command not found". Has anyone faced and/or solved this issue?
