Has anyone used these two Mac editors and if so which one would you recommend and why?

I'd probably lean more toward Coda 2. I find Coda 2 is great for standard HTML, JS, CSS, and PHP especially. When it comes to Coffeecup, they've been around a very long time. I remember them when I first started in the field in the 90s having random software to help web designers and it always felt subpar. I've found their software often tries to mimic the interface of popular applications while not really getting to the details as to why those popular applications are actually popular. It never really feels right to me as a developer or designer.

Coda 2 has a plugin architecture so you'll be able to add new features as well as having a built in MySQL editor. It has built-in Git support too, so you'll be working with first-class tools regardless of the size of your project. Coda is only a few dollars more expensive than Coffeecup, but I really feel you'll get more use out of it.
