Colors, Patterns and Selecting Objects

When creating a object with a pattern inside how are you able to resize the overall object yet retain the same size of the pattern inside the object. For example the stars in a pattern become distorted after resizing the square. thanks

If you are using an image pattern as a background, you can use the background-size:cover; css property to make the background size proportionately with the size of the box.
