JavaScript JavaScript and the DOM Making Changes to the DOM Modifying Elements

Completely lost

I really just dont have any idea what to do, it is asking to get the element <input> and assign its value to the variable and I just don't understand it. I am honestly having alot of trouble with this DOM section.

It is because you are trying to select based on element's id with getElementById when you should be trying to select based on the name of the element tag with getElementByTagName('input'). If you wish to select by id use document.getElementById('linktext'), this will select the input tag with the id of linktext.
