Console?

Can anyone explain the console to me? Is it the same as the terminal on my mac.would I use my terminal if I was working remotely and not using the 'workspaces.' Or can someone steer my to a good tutorial video in treehouse that explains this stuff?

The console, is a view of your computer. You can create operations in the console to perform different tasks that you would wouldn't be able to do by using the normal desktop.
