Design Foundations Course Errors

I started the Design Foundations Course today and so far I have found two errors.

The first error is located in the quiz for the "Great Designers" video. One of the 9 questions asked is, "Who designed the Apple logo?". None of the four designers listed designed the Apple logo. The question accepts "Paul Rand" as the correct answer but this is simply incorrect.

The second error I have found so far is that the quiz for the "Color" video does not exist.

4 Answers

The video says that Paul Rand created corporate identities for companies like IBM; Apple, ABC; UPS... but if we do a short search, we can find this: http://robjanoff.com/applelogo/

Now, I'm not sure if this is a mistake or the meaning of the question was different. Only the creator of the video can truly answer.

there is also a redirect loop on every video and quiz of the next stage after the color video/quiz that doesn't exist.

Hey Julian Rodriguez

I apologize for the confusion. The question should read "Who designed the IBM logo?". It's now fixed. Thanks for finding that error. Again I apologize for the confusion.

Also Livia-Alexandra Sarban you are correct that Rand didn't in fact create the Apple icon. However he did create the brand identity for NEXT which was started by Steve Jobs. NEXT was then transferred through to Apple when Jobs joined back up with them.

Again sorry for the confusion. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to tag me in the post.

Hi Mat Helme,

I'm glad the issues have been fixed. I have enjoyed the presentation style of this course. Thanks to you and Treehouse for creating it.

Julian, glad you enjoyed this. I helped with the video elements and was a really fun course to work on. I"m sure we'll do something else like this in the future.

Justyn,

Looking forward to more courses like this. Thank you!

Julian, you are more than welcome and we do love creating for our members! There's so much great stuff in store for you guys! Can't wait to get this stuff out there!

This was my first real design course and it was wonderful to learn so many new things. I always imagined I need to be an artist to do design, so this was definitely an eye-opening experience.

Congratulations Matt on transferring so much knowledge and positive energy!

In the size and texture video we are told Implied texture = Touch and given example of Legos. Texture is broken down into 2 types here - Implied and Visual.

Other reference material and definitions usually break texture down into Actual Texture vs Implied texture, which is defined as a texture that is only visual and not tactile. So according to other sources I've seen Implied texture and visual texture are the same thing.

Anyone else with more experience than I have want to weigh in on this?

Hey Jon Ryea ,

Implied & Visual texture are characteristics of 2D design like web design which is a digital medium. Actual texture and implied texture refer to 3D objects.

Thanks Mat, that helps clear things up for me. Awesome course and I can't wait to test out this design process on an actual website.

Jon Ryea ,

Send over your design when you're done, I'd love to see it.
