Design of my application

I am currently building a rails app and I have the main idea for what I want in the app. but the only thing that is holding me back is the design of it.

I'm not quite sure I caught the point of what you were asking! Are you asking for tips on how to bring a good design to life?

Creating the design of your web application should be handled as if you are creating a masterpiece. Pay attention to every detail and do not go into it without a solid game plan. For me, when I create a design I first write it down on paper - yes real paper. Nothing too detailed, squares, circles, doodles and barely readable hand-writing. From there I have my "wireframe" in mind. I'll continue over too either Photoshop or GIMP to begin making my idea come to life. Once I am confident that is done I will begin the process of BUILDING the design.

The Design Process (for me)

  • Branistorm
  • Wireframe
  • Photoslop
  • Give it life

Ever heard of "Writer Block"? I often encounter something I call "Design Block". I'll be sitting there and anything I produce just does not look good. For this I will Google a bit of inspiration for what I'm trying to get at.

Thanks Man! Should i build the actual software first then worry about the design or design it then build the software for it.? Software Before Design or Design Before Software?

I'd do software before design - but that is my opinion!
