Designing Web Applications

Hola Everybody, I have been interested in designing some faux web apps for my portfolio but I am not to sure where I should start. Does anyone have any advice and tips? Thanks.

You could use Rails scaffolding to build out an app really quick and then focus in on the design. It will at least be some what functional that way and you won't have to spend much time programming it.

Pick your favorite online app and make a mockup of a simplified version. You could even start with Treehouse.
