Difficulties with challenges and progressing through course

I’m curious if I am the only one having difficulties getting through the course (Beginner iOS Dev.) and if I am what I should be doing differently.

Currently most of my learning for the course is done outside of the videos, though thus far only addressing very basic concepts, I find many of the videos difficult to follow. I’ve had to use a couple of textbooks to take me through these basics.

Evidence is presented with many of the code challenges. I find the questions often obtuse. I never know the answers immediately and have to look for the answers in textbooks, which generally have far easier to understand examples. But even so, if it wasn’t for the answers in the community I would likely never complete them.

If the code challenges represent proof of what you have learned during the course than I fear I haven’t learned much.

Is it really supposed to be this difficult or is the curriculum here just not suited to the learning styles of some?

Hi Clarkmcleod,

We all learn in different ways and at different speeds. With that said, what you're experiencing is completely normal. You could try watching the videos twice, or at a slower speed (Treehouse has a function where you can lower the speeds of the videos). Take notes during the videos, they can help you later.

If you end up having trouble solving a challenge or quiz, you could watch the video again to fill in the blanks. Another approach is to try to solve the problem by searching the web to see how people use to solve this problem (Not for an answer to copy paste).

It is difficult, and my best advice is to take it slow. You can do this! :)
