Display not showing on Design tab

My designs for any Android app aren't showing. It's doing this for both my laptop and desktop both. My problem is exactly this on the following issue: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/51230869/cant-see-live-preview-in-design-tab-in-android-studio

None of the methods in that link helped. What's strange is that Android Studio never gave me this issue before when I was using TeamTreehouse, my own projects, UDACITY, etc. Please help.

I had this problem as well, it's apparently a bug in the version of Android Studio that I'm using. Are you sure that changing Theme.AppCompat.Light.DarkActionBar to Base.Theme.AppCompat.Light.DarkActionBar does not fix the issue?
