Does it help to be Certified in Web Development?

If i only have a GED, would it some how help to get certification in front end web development?

I have no certification, I view my portfolio as my certification. Which projects I have worked on, who I have worked for is important to a potential employer. I guess a certification is good to have for a starter although it is not needed at all. I managed to get into the Tech industry without a certification.
