General Discussion

Does treehouse have a data open to the public about organization subscribers like local libraries?

I subscribe to Treehouse through my local city library and it saves some money while (I believe) Treehouse is still being paid from this library for per subscriber through it. I was gonna make an web app to show all the local libraries people can use to start learning coding from Treehouse on a map, but

  1. I don't know if the data is in public.
  2. I don't know if it helps treehouse make more or less money, that's why they don't actually want to make it public.

When I was a paid student for treehouse before finding that my local city library had a subscription, I stopped the subscription often because the cost adds up when it spans to yearly after all. During the breaks, Treehouse is not making money from me while I am not able to access the learning platform either, lose-lose. It seems like using the service from Treehouse through the local library or some organization is a win-win strategy for both parties. So, does treehouse have the data public?

Hi there!

We currently don't make this data available today to the public. Each library that has Treehouse available to patrons uses it in a different way, so while you might have gotten the full benefits of Treehouse, other libraries might require certain things for a student to use the platform, and it might be integrated with other learning tools/initiatives. The best thing to do is contact your local library to see if they offer Treehouse as a public service.

I'm so glad you found your local library's program helpful!

Thank you for the reply. So, is it somewhat beneficial for Treehouse if I tell people to start learning on Treehouse by subscribing to it through my local city library? Does Treehouse earn through this type of subscription method? Suppose someone is already a student paying a regular monthly fee. If he switches to the subscription service through the library like me, then he is not giving Treehouse money, but is Treehouse still earning through the library? I like to promote Treehouse and it is getting better and better (I have 30,000 points!) over the years. If I recommend it to people and tell them it is free through our local library, then they'd more likely sign up than knowing they have to pay $29/month. But I also don't want to abuse the free service and decrease the number of potential customers who would be paying. Practically, I could make 1000 people sign up on Treehouse through our local library, but it translates basically a potential loss of $30,000/month for Treehouse unless Treehouse makes some money per a patron who signs up.

Nice work on racking up those points!! :-)

Libraries hosting Treehouse memberships for patrons are definitely paying us a fee for the annual subscription per student, although I'm not able to discuss the actual amount publicly.

I'd suggest that your friends reach out to their local library and find out if they offer Treehouse - and if not, they can learn more about us by emailing: orgs@teamtreehouse.com

Hope that helps!

Okay, thank you for the answer!
