doesnt aside mean "standalone"

i thought the aside tag meant something that wasnt the main part of the webbsite.

Hi Filippa,

An aside tag means stand-alone in the sense of it is not the main content, but it does not affect the layout or styling. It is useful for screen-readers when describing the page to the user. To change the layout, normally CSS would be used. The aside tag can be helpful when working in CSS because the tag can be targeted for specific layout rules. You can see more about the aside tag on the Mozilla Developer Network (MDN). Note that in the MDN example, they use CSS to change the layout and styling.
