5,406 PointsDrupal 7.39: What am I missing? No Software. Just a bunch of subfolders inside drupal 7.39 folder.
I've followed the video to the letter, put the drupal 7.39 inside c:/websites. After extracting everything, all I have is a folder with subfolders labeled "includes, misc, modules etc... NOT THE SOFTWARE SHOWN ON THE VIDEO. Anybody have any idea what went wrong. Kinda disheartening to get this far and then have this blow up in my face.

28,149 PointsHey Tim,
Did you follow all 12 steps of the first badge? Have you got your MAMP or WAMP server set up, database configured, and that opened your folders localhost browser address for that project?
All drupal, or any website is are a bunch of files. There is no software executable. You'll need your php server, database server running, and than you'll need to navigate to the root of the Drupal folder's location in your browser.
Not sure where you are at, but that's the steps.

5,406 PointsHi Kevin, Thanks for your quick reply. Yes. I followed all those steps, BUT... let me make sure I understand you. I went through all those other videos, meticulously. The only point I deviated on, was choosing 32 bit (because that's what my system is (Windows 7)). And I just checked, my server is still running. So, I honestly don't know what I missed or where to start looking. All I know is, when the video shows Diane clicking on the unzipped folder inside 'websites' and then she's inside the software, for me that didn't happen. I am stuck looking at a whole bunch of folders and readme files.... Does this give you any more info to know where I am?

5,406 PointsKevin, Is it possible to post a screenshot here? That would definitely clarify things. Or at least where I am.

28,149 PointsHey Tim,
You can add a screenshot by saving the screenshot as a jpg, and than save it on some host somewhere, and than use the Markdown Cheatsheet link by the comment button to post your images URL in the correct markdown syntax.
Sounds confusing but it's not.
I'll have to spend more time on this tonight, unfortunately, unless someone else can help you before than. I haven't done the drupal course yet, but I am sure once I see how Treehouse walked through the steps I'll be able to help. Surely it's not much different than setting up a local wordpress install and I can do that in my sleep now. It'll probably be 7-8 hours before I know.

5,406 PointsHi Kevin, Thank you so much for your dedication to finding an answer. I really appreciate that. And I'm glad to know you can do a wordpress install in your sleep. I'm sure you're right. This is probably nearly identical. Anyway, I'm glad to know you have this covered in case there are any other issues with Drupal. And when the time is right, maybe I can ask you about writing custom plug-ins as well.
OK. I figured it out. (I'm Really, really Embarrassed... so much so I almost don't want to say anything.) Have you ever had the experience of attempting something totally new (and out of your comfort zone)... You're going along, nervous, but things are working, suddenly things don't look right. What you see the instructor doing is not what's on your screen and you panic!!! thinking you must have done something wrong? Well, that was the situation yesterday. I went back and looked at everything several more times. Finally, (don't laugh too long or hard, please...) I realised I wasn't finished: What looked like Drupal up and running was in fact just a (very different looking screenshot on a Mac) of the unpacked software package. Not yet installed.
