Feedback needed for Jellybean demo.

Hi treehouse community,

My friend and I made Jellybean envisioning it as a focus open timeline to share ideas and problems. This is a online demo but we hope to implement more features soon.

Please help us and give us feedback on the design, functionality and more. Constructive feedback are absolutely welcome, we don't mind being shoot down by a shot gun critic :D

Here is the link http://beta.thejellybean.co

Much thanks, Kit Neoh

It's not entirely clear what's the point of the app is. It says ...

Explore the world's ideas and problems.

However, most of the content seems to be a collection of links rather than any discussion. I also don't see any posts with any comments or likes makes me think those functions are broken

other issues:

  • There is no login or sign up button
  • In some of the posts the images are pretty large, I have to scroll to see the text underneath the image that is part of the same post
  • I don't think the loading animation is necessarily clear it's a loading animation, the dots move too much too quickly
  • Some times the images take a second or so to load, so maybe background load them
  • Report button doesn't appear to do anything
  • The permalink button links to JSON
  • Clicking on a profile doesn't do anything which breaks the mental model of social sites

Thanks James! Yea it's just an online demo to play around with, none of the button works except the sharing function with is our core feature but there are more things needed to be implemented and we just made it as simplistic as possible with least amount of code written. It's kinda like a MVP.

We have yet to build sign in and up pages. Thanks for the feedback James really appreciate it. You are the only person that gave us concise feedback and we will be updating the site pretty soon.

For an MVP I'd probably make a small modal that pops up that says something like "this feature coming soon" so you can nail down the visual design, but also not confuse your early testers.

Gotcha, like a pop up on the side to explain other features that will come right? I think that's a good idea for users to be vary.

Ok this is very specific and sort of fine detail so may not be appropriate for an mvp, however here's some initial thoughts on visual design.

The main areas within the post module (e.g. meta data at top, image, text, and links) are very close to each other making for a very dense unit which gets in the way of quickly understanding what is content and what is functionality, also is aesthetically a bit uncomfortable.

I think messing around with increasing some top and/or bottom padding and maybe the line-height or font-size of the description text would aid readability and usability.

I also think you may want to treat the Value proposition, number of ideas posted, and the "share" module, as a cohesive unit that is different than the posts themselves, that could be with color, size, arrangement or position on the page.

Good luck!

Thanks Amadeo, and yes we have a lot of work to do for Jellybean, we wanted to make sure we get a working demo first to test the idea out. Thats is not the final UI yet cause we just fixed a lot of the UI.

Do post something on it or share a link on Jellybean for now :)
