First portfolio suggestions

So Im working on building my first portfolio. My primary purpose is to explore work in front-end dev, user experience or potentially web design (preference in user experience) There are three basic questions I have getting started.

  1. Should I include examples of code?
  2. Visual presentation is everything, static shots or a live webpage
  3. Best way to present work dribbble or persona website?

Any useful input is welcome, thank you!

Hi Justin,

  1. No, but you can blog.
  2. Both.
  3. Both.

There's really no one or best way to do something. The key is just to get yourself out there. Behance is another good place to share work. One other way to get ideas and inspiration is to take a look at what's out there.

Hey Dustin,

Thanks for the input! I think there is a level of insecurity I must cross on my own. In addition, do you think that having a job directly related to those fields is a solid requirement?

Not necessarily. Some people freelance right away; others go back to their job as a developer and vice versa. Experience is probably the best way to get out there. Make websites for friends, family, local businesses, maybe even for free in the beginning. Show that you can help make them or their business a success with your expertise. Thank you for the info Dustin. I will check out the Treehouse Friends, looks like some great stuff on there.
