Freelance Web Developer: Front-End, Back-End, or both?

As I understand, web developing companies have teams of people who specialize in different areas: web design, front-end and back-end. Does it mean that if you want to become a freelancer, you have to be specialized in all three (unless you create small, informative web pages)?

Hello Aleksander,

In short terms you need both. For example if you work as back-end developer you wont be dealing only with the server side. You cant escape from writing some JavaScript or CSS. I would suggest that you focus on the development you prefer but you still need to have decent knowledge of the other. If you are freelancer and working by yourself then you absolutely need both.
