I'm considering developing websites for clients, but I'm not sure how to charge and what to charge for (development, maintenance, bug-fixes, hosting, etc.). Are there any suggested reads one can recommend?

That is a very good question and something that new freelancers have problems with. I came across this following site a year ago when I had to price a PHP website for someone:
http://business.tutsplus.com/articles/5-ways-to-strategically-price-your-freelance-rates--fsw-25201
At first the price I had come up with might have been too high, but after going it over in my head for a few days, I decided to just provide my price and the client accepted it. Read the article and hope you have nothing but success in your freelances. Remember, you are your own critic that that goes double for you setting your prices. The more you do it, the better you get to price certain attributes to your build. Good luck my friend.
Cheers!
