Freelancing as a Web Developer

I was wondering what site/sites would be recommended for being a career as a web developer. As of now I do not feel comfortable enough to begin working in the field but I plan on increasing my understanding of codes I know and expanding on codes I don't. Any advice would be helpful and Thank you for taking time to answer.

P.S. I have found a site called UpWork but that's about it. I would also like some recommendations of sites to STAY AWAY from.

Moderator Edit: Changed Topic to General Discussion, as it does not directly pertain to a specific Treehouse Course.

Hello, Alex,

Just like you and me, countless others are newish to the latest online design practices, and it's become evident that some (many, most) of those people have some measure of contact between meetings.

In my locale, there are five groups sponsoring monthly web designer and developer Meetups. I don't believe there's a substitute for meeting people up close & personal. Two Meetups in my area are planned for February, and I'm already considering one group for possible membership. We'll see.

Always be encouraged!

Side bar: Several months ago, I read numerous pages at Upwork, especially, on what is termed, Legal Pages. Their association with Elance was discovered, and I had a favorable feeling about Upwork, keeping in mind my ambiguous expectations. FWIW, it frequently takes much time researching job sites you find interesting, and, with regard to those sites, searching for and reviewing "thumbs down" comments could provide additional points of view.

Thank you for your time to answering my questions and it has made me feel a lot more confident in finding work. I will have to look online to see if there are any local jobs available. Again, Thank you so much for your answer and getting me started in a direction.
