GKRandomSource.sharedRandom() v's arc4random uniform

Hi I found the old method of arc4random uniform was more "random" and didn't repeat items so often . the newer gamekit GKRandomSource.sharedRandom() method seams to repeat items more. why have we started to use this method? and is there a way to get a wider range of randomness out of th gameKit method?. thanks
