Has anyone here got a job as a junior developer? i'd love to hear your story if you did. Thanks!

What have your experiences been like?

I see a lot of job adverts for developers around but they all seen have very unrealistic expectations.

A few recruiters have added me on linkedin but the roles they are recruiting for all seem to require experience.

Any thoughts?

I got my first job as a junior developer almost a year ago, after teaching myself online for 6-8 months. I didn't realize Treehouse was around at the time, and I love its flexibility.

As for the experience part, I found a lot of startups who want to take a chance on you if you have a great portfolio and you're eager to learn more! For me, I had a portfolio and then I did an apprenticeship to gain experience. After that, I was able to land a full-time job as a developer and go from there.

Hi,

I managed to land a job after learning with Treehouse. When I started to look for jobs I also experienced some pretty steep requirements. What I did was that I still sent these companies a link to my portfolio in an email where I introduced myself and asked them if they by any chance was in need of a new passionate developer who loved to learn. I received a great response from applying like this.

So my advice is that you take a look at their requirements, if you pass 50% of them, go ahead and apply. Remember that they are basically trying to describe their perfect canditate in the job ads.
