Help! I cant get workspaces to work with javascript

I'm pretty deep into a course at this point but I could never get Workspaces to work with any javascript lessons, I've always used Notepad for all javascript. No matter what I type or delete in the Workspaces console I get the same results when I preview, as if it has reset its script to the teacher's lesson every time. I have the updated version of java and my browser (firefox) I have no problems with html and ccs just javascript. It would be nice to have Workspaces working so I would not have to do workarounds.
