Help with naming a new business

Hey Guys,

I would like some help naming my new business

What I would like to do is offer a service mainly to small businesses and possibly home customers as well as well as having a pay as you go as well as an emergency rate.

I plan to offer remote support ( rescue me, team viewer look good options) Desktop visits for issues that can not be resolved via remote, there would be a standard call out fee plus repair fee. Monthly support plans Cloud solutions and hosting - maybe white label or partner up. VoIP solutions with soft phone Servers, windows server and Linux.

I would also like to know what certificates that would help such as Microsoft certified partners, ITIL and IM&T qualified etc.

I have seen some companies use Zendesk to keep track of issues raised( I don't think this would really work, it terms of ITIL and CMDB) At work we use Landesk, I have been looking and there are some good alternatives.

I really liked the name Spark IT but all the domains are taken, I would like to borrow your creative minds to see if we can come up with something great?

Thanks Hugo

Hey Hugo,

Congrats on starting a new business! That's exciting. :) I'm actually not very good at naming businesses or apps, but I think you definitely should consider any name you choose with the utmost care.

I'll pass this along to Dan and Pasan; they should have some good advice about this.

Hi Although not for your business perhaps Hugo

But I am obsessed with the name Pantomime Cow (because we are good with the front end and the back end) - lots of cool bold cow print branding I see it all now.

Not sure anyone who is not from the UK will get this.

G

I'm in the process of starting under the name 'Suljam' as a join venture between myself - 'Suleiman' and my wife 'Jameella'. Nice and simple :)

Just keep it meaningful enough and simple.

I think Hugo sounds cool too. Hugo IT or something. Personal branding is king as you know. It might sound weird to you because it's your name, but Hugo does sound cool. Costa as well. Good luck. Keep us posted.

My best advice at this point is to not only look at domain names but also social media for potential business name ideas and conflicts.

if you do a search for the terms that your potential customers my used to find you, you should be able to find some competitors and other companies in the same area. That kind of search might give you some ideas for names to shoot for or potentially avoid.

Either way, you will want to try out all kinds of different searches for domains to see what's keywords are most represented. Comparing this list to a keyword search in Google should give you an idea as to what keywords arm most competitive, but also how you can define yourself with a unique name and get some customers.

Thanks Guys,

really great advice here. Domains and Social media will need to be avaialble that will play a big part.

I have thought about using my name, but like above Kris the best thing was Hugo IT, my girlfirnds surname is Smith so maybe Hugo&Smith - IT Consultants, not sure how well that sounds.

I will see if I can come up with something meaningful and that sounds good with domains and social available.

@G Pantomime Cow sound cool, not for me though but really cool, had a good laugh over it.

Anymore, a good business name, stems from being able to find a good domain name.

If you find a good domain name, then run the name through http://namechk.com/ to check the availability of the social names. This tool will let you know quickly what is available.

Single word domains are a rarity these days. Even double word domains are rare. It sounds like your business will be localized. The best thing you can do is to include a city name along with keywords of what you do. So if you are from Chicago, try chicagoremotesupport.com. If someone searches for remote support in Chicago, you will rank higher. It's not glamorous. But, you could get the domain name, and still call yourself Spark IT.

You like spark...your name is hugo....the names aren't taken. I'm not great at branding but just throwing some ideas out.

Didn't understand your certificates question. Do you have the certifications and wanna know whether to put the trademarks on your site? If you have the certifications then sure, posting them adds credibility. Comptia A+, MCP, etc. Everyday people at home won't understand it but small businesses may have more confidence when they see them and want to hire you.
