I am asked to make an element inside a class element to bold and italic. I don't know how to target an element nested inside a class element.

you can selected nested elements by using the descendant selector method. It is done by adding a space between your nested elements and its parent. Fx. if you want the <a>-tag inside the footer you would write:
.main-footer a {
/* whatever styling you want to add */
}
