How much should I charge as a front-end developer?

Hello Treehouse teachers & colleagues,

As a front-end developer, how much should I charge my clients in the beginning?

I'll be starting as a freelancer on Upwork. I have a fair grip in these areas - HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap & jQuery.

Design your household and business budget, to see what your expenses will be for a month. Divide that by the number of hours you want to realistically work in a month, and that way you can figure out what your minimum hourly rate should be to meet your expenses (don't forget to factor in whatever your income taxes are going to be, and whatever sales tax you may need to remit where you live).

If the hourly number you come up with seems low for your experience level, bump it up to a reasonable wage.

That's the basic formula for surviving on freelance work, anyway. If you can charge more and the market will support it, good for you!
