How much to charge to build website

What's the going rate for a business website...

I know that is such a broad question...

the website would be just information basically...no back-end programming..just html, css, javascript but probably written with php...

So the question is how much would people charge to build them an informational website and would you charge them a monthly fee?

i've heard minimum $2000 but wanted to get your advice as well

First calculate your hourly rate: http://freelanceswitch.com/rates/

Then, adjust for your experience, skill set, and city's living wages.

This shouldn't take more than one or two hours, and will give you a great starting point.

First and for most, think of Facebook for example. In today's Forbes top billionaires you find who? Of course Mark Zuckerberg who is worth billions. Now if your going to say I will charge $2000 you need to think about your needs and do you really need the money? What I would do is learn sales and find a medium ground to where you can show a demonstration of different websites and how you would charge per website. If they want a plain Jane site $2000 fine, but the more you put, the more you charge. They need you're business, so help them out, just be careful not to be taken advantage of.
