Hello!

I've been asking myself the same when I started Android. I knew nothing about Java besides variable declaration, functions and so on. It is pretty similar to other object-oriented languages. I had a C# background that helped me get along with it faster. Going over some Java courses will help you understand faster, but most beginner Android courses are very detailed and easy to understand. However, if you are confused while following the courses, I suggest taking the Java Basics course.

Good luck!
