I am storing the value inside the echo variable? The document.write() func shows the value output to be correct

Please can you look at this, and tell me what I am doing wrong

script.js 
function returnValue(string) {
  var echo = string;
  return echo;
}

document.write(returnValue("hi"));

<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">

The question only asks you to store the result of the function in the var echo and passing it a string for example.

function returnValue(text) {
  return text;
}

var echo = returnValue("test");

Try this. The challenge wants the returnValue() string to be assigned to the variable "echo". 

function returnValue(string) {
  var echo = string;
  return echo;
}

var echo= returnValue("hi");
