A single = is an assignment operator. You are looking for ==, which is a comparison operator.

!= is a comparison operator . ist a negation operator

Raslan Ismail re-read my answer.

Your code:

//add conditional statement
  if($username=true&&$role!="admin"){
echo "You do not have access to this page. Please contact your administrator.";
  }

You are setting $username to true. Not comparing if it is true. Use '=='

it still not working i become this messange "Use the negation operator to check that $role is NOT EQUAL to "admin"."

it works. thank you
