I 'm interested in digital marketing, how much technology should I know to start a one-person digital marketing company?

I have to invest time in researching the digital marketing industry so I am trying to discover how to research the digital marketing industry and how much technology I should know. My goal is to start a digital marketing business by myself in the next 10-15 months. I am currently in the front end web development track and plan to then do the PHP track, wordpress development track and Ruby. Am I think about this correctly? I appreciate any feedback. Thank You.
