I tried changing the color to the background color, and nothing happened.

I tried to change the background color in ccs and nothing happened.

Once you change the color, save your workspace, and then when you preview the webpage it will reflect the change.

The video did not mention saving so I believe this caused confusion especially for everyone new to this.

hi, Brittany. looking ahead..

the color property is applied to the text and the background color property to the blocks

please check syntax and path to css file...and save the file cntrl + s

.text {
 color: white;
}

.block {
 background-color: black;
}

maybe you needed to save the file lst before refresh? I noticed the beginning video didn't explain that part.

CTRL and S to save

thanks for the SAVE step!
