I'm trying to link the home page to index.html but it does not seem to work

trying to like the home page to index.html but it doesn't seem to work not sure what I'm doing wrong here as I have linked to about page to about.html fine

There's nothing wrong with that. It appears to do nothing because it is a link to the page you are already on.
