What is the different between instance and object?

For most folk there is no difference. In most programming languages, including PHP, when you create an object you are creating an instance of a class.

Assuming that the Dog class has been defined and accepts one parameter (the dog's name), then

$dog = new Dog('rover');

creates an object named $dog, which is of type Dog, and which is an instance of the class Dog.
