max() isn't returning a number?

Why is my code not running. where am i wrong?

  if(value1 > value2){
    return max(value1,value2);
  }
}

The problem is that you are using the function you are creating, inside itself. If value1 is greater than value2, then you just need to return value1 like so:

function max(value1, value2) {
    if (value1 > value2) {
        return value1;
    } else {
        return value2;
    }
}
